Hello,
My name is Rick Jones. I am the creator of Smash Champ.
I have an urgent request that I am willing to pay for. I need somebody who can export all of the “Summoner’s Rift” level models from League of Legends for the Source Engine and then recreate the entirety of Summoner’s Rift in Hammer for use in SFM. If you are interested in this gig please let me know asap as finding somebody who can do this is my main priority today.

This is a very common response from model rippers. You have nothing to worry about. I have been working for two years in the professional video game entertainment industry. There are so many legal things I could explain right now but I think it would be a waste of my time. From my experience talking with scared model rippers who know little about the law because they are not in the professional industry, nothing I say will be believed. I have gotten into too many arguments with people who don’t know what they are talking about and make no effort to research it for themselves.
To make this short just in case you are seriously considering this and don’t fit that description.
(1) Machinima and Riot have a working relationship with defined rules of conduct and this fits within the rules, (2) you will not be credited if you do not want to be so nobody will know about this, (3) Machinima would be the party in any lawsuit, not you – but there will never be a lawsuit because Riot wants stuff like this to be made (for example, how Bungie responded to Red VS Blue).
So do you think you could do this?
What's the price?

I have no doubt then that you know the law, but if you think there are any legal issues related to the use of ripped video game models in our machinimation productions, you are very wrong. We have been doing it for years and have never, ever had a problem. In fact, the reward is always good relationships with each of these game companies.
Do you have any idea where I might go to find the help I need?

Was not challenging your right to what ever it is you do, have done, etc. Just sounds illegal to me. If you say its good to go, then I will leave it at that. Morally though it rubs me the wrong way. People put a lot of hard work into what they do just to have it ripped and used as if it were your own. So I guess that is the only problem I have with that.
Glad you found someone to do it for you.. post your web page or project here when done so we can see what you have been up to and doing.
Oh and one last thing...
CHANCY!

What I am hearing is that $400 is a better place to begin negotiation. Is that better?

Okay after some research and trying, I don't think it is possible. The World models are kept server side not client side, giving you no access to the mdl files. Still looking at other ways or ideas to perform the task, but its not looking favorable.

Wow, that is the first time I have heard that.
Another guy who looked into it said the data was there in the binaries (he could point at the data in an hexadecimal editor) so it can be extracted. He didn't know how to work with that though.
I also know that many of the objects (like the towers) have been ripped.

She was able to extract 400+ textures, but no models.

UPDATE: SUCCESS! We have a few extracted. Working on getting the Skins on the models we have extracted now.
You want these saved in what format for what game? And What is your plan for these models?

G4MER,
Seriously? Let's connect through email or Skype or something. The models are going to be used in a SFM project. I was told they would need to be compiled in SFM.
Let me ask my director, he probably knows more.

By the way, I don't think we need any characters or anything - just the background of Summoner's Rift.

Hi, I'm the animator/director for this project. Everything is going into the Source engine to be used in SFM. I hope you know how to use Hammer. We have someone who already has extracted the shopkeeper and minions. We already have character models handled. As of right now, we are just looking for a seamless recreation of Summoner's Rift in the source engine.
Also, this is all for an animated series. It is legal and actually encouraged by developers/publishers! Not only are we putting a helluva lot of effort into producing this, but it's great endorsement for the game. Manipulation of game engines has been popular for around a decade now. And for me, personally, the project goes on my resume.
Add me on Skype too. SSBVET

Wow!
I noticed you don't seem interested in talking through Skype or email.
Having Summoner's Rift gives us an advantage over the other SFM animators doing LoL series. How can we make sure these files don't get shared?
Also, how many hours of work do you think this will take? Is $400 a fair payment you think?
