Probably not going to impact most people this one, but I run a multi-monitor system - One 5900 AGP as a main screen and several other screens driven by an oldish NVidiea 32 Mb PCI card and a PCI 64Mb NVidea Quadra driving other screens. Until recently I've had to run Hammer (3.5) configured with my 3D camera textured display on the 5900 and Half-Life model viewer (1.25) on the same screen, as on any other screen they don't actually show anything (known issue regarding opengl only working on primary display apparently).

On Fri, I downloaded the HL2 SDK and started playing aound. Virtually the first thing I noticed is that both Hammer (V4.0) and the included Half-Life model viewer (V1.22) both quite happily display the pitcures regardless of which screen they're on. In the case of the model viewer, this presents me with a dilema. What are the functionailty differences between V1.22 and V1.25, and are they worth forcing me to run the model viewer on the main screen.

Still mucking around with the architectural side of Hammer V4.0 and it's very sweet. No more mucking around to set up textures with transparent elements, and they show up correctly in Hammer. Lovely stuff.

Grateful for any thoughts.

CJ

Added to version 1.24

  • Stop animation playing, previous frame, set frame, next frame
  • Scale of mesh, scale of bones

Added to version 1.23

  • Just some bugfixes, if you don't have problems, there is no need for a download.
Not that important, if you ask me.
If they deliver v1.22 with the SDK, it was good enough for the hL2 developers, so good enough for you.

It may be telling that the Steam delivered SDK version of the HLMV v1.22 was built on Nov. 12 2004 as indicated in the Help/About dialog.

The HLMV v1.25 that I downloaded just now from Mete Ciragan's website (orig author) was built on Sept. 15 2002.

To me that means the Steam distributed SDK version of HLMV v1.22 may be significantly altered.

One thing that's upsetting is that the File/Open dialog is A) formatted poorly and stuck in large icon mode and B) only allows for content loaded thru the Steam file-system mount referencing CS:S files due to the gameinfo.txt file in the sourcesdkcstrike_sample_content directory. If I change the gameinfo.txt file to load HL2 content (ie, SteamAppID=220) then HLMV won't start (exits with 106: Failed to resize the cache file message while mounting the Steam FS).

And most of all I can't figure out how to open MDL files from an arbitrary place on the hard drive. I'd love to open files extracted with GCFScape... ANYONE??

Feel free to tell me I'm missing the obvious, if so..

AND, I'm new here.. Hello.
