Very strange error if doing something caused the error and yet deleting that didn't fix it - are you sure thats all you changed?
My only guess, if it compiled fine but doesn't run with an error like that, would be that the game itself imposes a limitation that the compile tools don't. In other words, perhaps CS:S doesn't let you load up huge maps even though hammer lets you make them. Is your map huge by any chance? Not talking file size here, but in its dimensions.

You said you added some ropes; though it's always possible that you've done something else which you've forgotten (I do it all the time coding this website!) it could also be possible that you incorrectly set up these entities and for some reason the compilers think the map is huge (perhaps infinitely large?). Make sure the ropes are gone by using the entity report, also check for errors as it tells you to do.
Also, why aren't you running vvis on your map? This should come inbetween VBSP and VRAD, so that your maps don't look like crap.

That seems like the cause - your map is big enough in terms of grid usage that the game doesn't like it, apparently.
EDIT:
That would be something to check as well. Could be causing this error.

That was the problem.
For some reason the top of a meshed brush became solid while the mesh stayed. (The meshed side was textured while the other side was transparent for some reason. I reloaded the map and it was fine. Very weird thing.
