Is there any conversion rate from the hammer units to meters or feet? I remember hearing awhile back that the newer hammer would have the option to use meters instead of the units or something, is that still happening? Also does anyone know a fairly close conversion for the units to meters scale? Something of that sort would really help for a map I am going to make, trying to get it as close as possible to the real thing. Thank you for any help.

At the moment, there's no easy conversion from Game units to any real-world form of measurement - Maybe a Metric grid option will be available when the final SDK is released?
I think a game unit is about equal to 1 1/2 inches or so.

Default Texture Scale:
Sets the defaults scale when applying textures. The default of .25 is the Source Engine default scale for 1 pixel = 1 unit = 1 inch.
So, apparently, each unit is equal to an inch. (Maybe later this value will change the grid size in game. Or maybe it does it now ... I'm not really sure, since I've barely messed around with it) [addsig]

It doesn't change the actual grid settings, it just sets the size when applying textures for easier usage - Since you hardly ever need to have textures with a scale of 1, since things are so high-res.

go to the 'map' menu and move your cursor over 'units' there are three
settings: 'none', the default, which is generic units; 'inches', and
'feet and inches'. the latter two are pretty self explanatory. changing
this does not change the grid size, therefore 1 unit = 1 inch.
changing the default texture scale does not change the scale of the
geometry, it just changes the default texture scale when you open the
texture application tool and when you create brushes. so if you wanted
most of your textures to be 256x256 intead of 128x128, you could change
the default texture scale to 0.50 and avoid having to change the
texture scale after you create a brush.

As said above, 1 unit is meant to be 1 inch, though it doesn't quite work out like that in "real life" ![]()
1 metre is about 39.5 inches, i.e. about 40 units. 1 foot is 12 inches, so 12 units.

1 inch = 2.53 centimeter
1 meter = 39.52 units (say 40)

So basicly, this means the wall textures that are 128 units high would be 3 meters in real life? That sounds unreasonable.

Morpheus, it's 2.54 cm. (Yes, it does make a difference)

Hah, well, I guess if you guys are considering hundredths of a centimeter it makes a difference
But since you're rounding so much anyway...yeah. Isn't a pixel = unit in Hammer/HL2?

I get the feeling like the "real life" outcomes are more like 1unit = 2inches. Just personal experience...

For what it's worth, human entities (info_player_start, npc_combine_s)
are all 64 units high. If we assume 1 unit is one inch, that makes
Gordon 5 foot 4 inches tall (64 inches). Seems like he ought to be a
little closer to 6 foot tall (more heroic).

1 unit is 1 inch, it was already stated, and I have been doing a map to about exact scale and the 1 unit to 1 inch stands true.

i messured my garage in inches, used those numbers at 1 unit = 1 in.
and mapped my garage. when i played it.....it was way to small.
For me 1 unit does not seem to = an inch.

That's true, there is no real conversion rate between units and inches or centimeters or whatever.
But uhm, ever looked at the date of this thread? You're breaking up an 10-months old one, mate...

I've done a complete to-scale of an office floor. It's just 1 unit = 1 inch.
1 pixel is not 1 unit, as per texture it's up to the scale you're using on that face, it has nothing to do with the player size and wall size.
