Does anyone know if the skyboxes in de_dust 2d or 3d or both? If its 2D, does anyone know where I can access that material? Its the one that has a small village on top of a hil.

The other question is how can you make the skyboxes render at the specific place in your level i.e outside the wall with villages and not appear in other skybox walls when doing 3d skybox.

I don't remember the skybox in dust for some reason, but there is a village in the skybox of dust 2 and it is 3D so I assume it is in dust as well.

Your 3D skybox is always placed at the centre of the map (0,0,0) and scaled up by 16x (by default). The way to ensure your skybox buildings or whatever show up in the right place, is to use reference architecture from the actual level, scale it down, and build around it (remember to delete it from the skybox after though). I can't explain it better than the tutorial here already has, so I recommend you just read over it and experiment until it makes sense to you.

Just for quick reference: When scaling remember the number 0.0625 ...its the metric equivalent of 1/16th

sorry to be off topic but isnt dec and metre, latin and french for units-of/base ten? hence metre = metric and december = the 10th month of the year (originally) ...

...anyways if you are stuck on the whole 3d skybox thing there is a tutorial map in your default sdk map folder that you can look at how its done

It's decimal because it's base 10 and a number not a unit of measurement. 0.0625 what? Nothing, because it's a decimal number.

That's may be what the root is, but that's not how it's used. [addsig]

it is how its used if your me i just continue my maps out in all directions like im making a huge world and then select all the area the player cant get to that will become my 3dskybox and then i go to TOOLS>TRANSFORM>select the SCALE radio button>enter 0.0625 in the X, Y and Z values and then OK or whatever it is... it makes it 1/16th the size for me and its all perfect as far as i can tell....

No, just a technicality on the meaning of the words and how they're used, that's all.
