hey guys, first post, i've looked through most of the tutorials, but not seen what I'm looking for, though includes lots of good stuff - nice one people at snarkpit. But i looked on google, and found something about prefabs, and being able to just insert them. I understand you can add your own creations, like if you make pillars or crates, you can save them and then just add them next time - but is there a way to use prefabs from hl2? like the chairs and barels in it? Leperous maybe touched it in the physics tut, with the barels that would fall onto the hossies and the seesaw. But I didn't pick up on it!

Please feel free to leave any comment you might think helpful at all! Once u guys help me get good, i'll make lovely maps and submit them all dont you worry! hehe!

Solo.

There are no prefabs in HL2, what you want are models. Start of by placing a prop_physics or prop_static then in the options choose the world model you want ie tables and chairs.

you my friend, are the cause of a late night for Solo!!! Thank you! all it takes is to be told how to do a few basic things then things can be easy and not annoying playing with them now, if you have time, or anyone in that case - let me know any more things baout the prop_ functions! ive tried adding a locker and cabinet, but they dont work for some reason, dont know why but im still happy, chairs work - and my map is gonna begin now!

Some of the models dont like using the prop_static function, like boxes and basically anything that moves! Try using prop_physics or prop_physics_multiplayer. Im a beginner at this mapping game too so anything ive learnt so far im willing to pass on!smiley

Yu can still make brush-based prefabs if you want, but they can't really use the physics. If you ever need something that is large but not too detailed and shouldn't be moved by physics then you can build em out of brushes. [addsig]
