i cant get the dynamic light to work! i place it on a lamp(on the bulb) and set all the angles and colors and brightness, but it doesnt work. the one time it did work, it was shining through the walls. could i just get the basic steps in making a mdl light work? should i assign light_dynamic to the mdl? whats happening!

are you asking about lighting models or light_dynamic ents? as far as I know models do not emit light, but I could be wrong. I have heared that you have to name a light_dynamic in order for it to function properly. Try it, and see what happens.

You don't always need to name it, but I think you do need to give it a purpose, so to speak. For example parent it to a physics object or give it an entity to point at.
Also something wierd about the light_dynamic is that it doesn't use the traditional number for brightness (255 255 255 200) in the 'light color' field. Don't know why it is even there. Instead it uses the new 'light brightness' field which is based on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest. You can technically go higher than 10, but it produces some wacky results.

umm this is odd, trying not to go too far off subject but i cant make my own topic. its really annoying. i may need a certain number of posts.....
well i want to ask a question.
HOW DO I MAKE AN ELEVATOR OUT OF A FUNC_TRACKTRAIN THAT TOGGLES ON HL2 ?????

I also have the same problem. Almost exactly the same actually.
I have a prop_physics lamp, a prop_physics lamp shade, and then a light_dynamic where the lightbulb would be. I named the lamp 'lamp1' and set the dynamic light's parent to 'lamp1'. I also named the light 'lamp1light'. I set the light brightness to 8, just to see how it looks, and now I have no light. The room that it is in once had a bit of light (mainly because of no lights before that, and one outside light), but now most of it is pitch black. I screwed around with the lamp, taking it and tossing it, and when I tossed it out of the window (no box around map, too lazy to do it while testing) and it fell into oblivion, there was a light there. The light kind of moved around as I shot stuff around, but then I shot it to where I couldnt see it anymore.
I hope that atleast a bit of that makes some sense to someone. What could I be missing? Is it something with the angles, or perhaps that big circle?

You make a new topic by clicking New Topic, searching for the answer to your question, and then hitting the block of text that has a big box around it that asks you if you want to start a new topic. As this isn't related to dynamic light in the slightest I wouildn't expect TOO many answers...
