Windows won't let me run HL2 or HL2DM when I do the expert compile!

I followed the compile tuts too - It says:

** Executing...
** Command:
** Parameters: -applaunch 320 -developer 1 -console 1 -map DM_COM~1

* Could not execute the command:
-applaunch 320 -developer 1 -console 1 -map DM_COM~1
* Windows gave the error message:
"Access is denied."

This should be in the HL2 editing forum .... but ....
Do you have "Long File Names" checked under expert compile? If you don't Windows interpret the ~1 as a "~1" and not the rest of the file name. (At least that's how I remember it working out)

Post this in editing next time. [addsig]

I'll check...

EDIT: Ah... no.

EDIT2: Still gives me this:

** Executing...
** Command:
** Parameters: -applaunch 320 -developer 1 -console 1 -map DM_COM~1

* Could not execute the command:
-applaunch 320 -developer 1 -console 1 -map DM_COM~1
* Windows gave the error message:
"Access is denied."

I'll try running HL2DM normally from Steam

This was taken from Lep's tutorial on Expert Compiling which I'm sure you've already read.

NOTE Your map must be stored in a directory "above" one with a GameInfo.txt file in it, otherwise the compilers will not run. For example, keep your HL2DM maps in the sourcesdkhl2mp_sample_contentmaps directory and make sure there is a properly configured GameInfo.txt in sourcesdkhl2mp_sample_content.

Heres the link to his tutorial.

Actually, no. Since the full SDK was released the set up is very automated. You don't need to funk with the GameInfo.txt or anything like that anymore. Just run hammer through the SDK window with the currect game selected to what you want to map for.

However, the map may be in the wrong directory. Or maybe there were compile errors and BSP wasn't created. You should just post a new topic in the actual editing forum with your entire log from this compile ...
