In the SDK documentation on compiling, I read this section:
-
For Place compiled maps in this directory before running the game, enter the directory where the sample maps are stored.
Example for Counter-Strike:
C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppsusernamesourcesdkcstrike_sample_contentmaps
Example for Half-Life 2:
C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppsusernamesourcesdksdkcontentmaps
Example for Half-Life 2 Deathmatch:
C:Program FilesValveSteamSteamAppsusernamesourcesdkhl2mp_sample_contentmaps - Press OK. Hammer is now configured for use.
-----
Why doesn't the documentation suggest to put the compiled .bsp file in the respective "map" directory. For example, HL2 maps should go directly into:
c:program filesvalvesteamsteamapps<username>hl2maps
I have configured my Hammer this way, and it seems to work fine.
Can anyone let me know whether I'm misunderstanding or mis-using something? I appreciate any input.
