There might be an easy and obvious answer to this question, but I cannot ascertain it even after searching the forum and also the SDK documentation.

Everytime I start Hammer, it asks me which game configuration to load up. Is there a way to specify a default game config to load? It's just an extra step each time I load up, and I almost always design HL2 maps (no use for CS config for now).

For now I think you'll just have to live with two extra clicks Besides...how often do you start Hammer? Once, maybe twice a day?

You could delete all your configs except for the one you wish to use all the time, that might circumvent the popup. Not really worth it though is it?

But that really isn't an elegant kludge. Doesn't it make sense for Valve to build in some sort of command parameter so you can just put "+hl2" or something and Hammer loads the corresponding config automatically?

Perhaps the syntax is already there, but it just isn't documented anywhere.

Possibly. Or perhaps they aren't so lazy as to need something to save that single extra click per launch

If you run hammer through the sdk window (there is probably a command line too) it will load it for whatever "Current Game" you have selected.

Other then that, quitcherbitchin', how else will it know? If you make a default, how would you change it? Go into options every time you wish to make a map for a different mod? [addsig]

If you don't use the CS config, just delete it!
