I tried spawning objects in-game (mainly on Highway 17) by typing give prop_physics in the console, it said something along the lines of "error no model name" I can find out the model names of any object i want with the surfaceprop command so thats not the problem. I typed give prop_physics "/model/props_junk/wood_crate002a.mdl" and variations of that and it still didn't work. How do i enter the model name into the console so it will work?

I'm afraid i don't know what you mean. So you're saying give prop_physics won't work at all?

Can I ask why you want to do this?

Can you? Sure, i'm a 'building hideouts with loose junk in hl2 maps' nut. I've got savegames of some crazy stuff i've done. But it's easier to spawn objects instead of spending 3 hours dragging every loose object from over the map.

I came to this professional looking site hoping to find help on this, and i get a complicated; poorly explained solution and a "why would you want to do that?"
Is someone going to help me or not? ![]()

Perhaps the reason you have yet to receive the professional help you seek is that nobody who has read this thread knows how to help solve your predicament? I know I don't, so I'm sorry I can't help you. However, given the attitude you've got judging from this post I'd think you don't deserve any help. Why don't you go cry about your mistreatment at the hands of an internet forum to your mother.

"Why don't you go cry about your mistreatment at the hands of an internet forum to your mother."
That was unneccessary. What i meant by "poorly explained solution" was I didn't understand Nickelplate's post completely and I asked a question about it which didn't get answered.

Personally, I doubt there is a way to do this. Can you spawn a blue/red/whatever light entity? Can you spawn a gun facing in a certain direction? The point is that the model name is one of several properties of the prop_ entities, it is not something so integral that HL will know that the parameter you're adding after is meant to be the model.
IF this is possible there will be some switch telling you to use the "model" property, e.g. -model models/breen.mdl (along with, e.g. -skin 2, -mindxlevel 8 etc.). Click the smartedit button to see what I'm talking about.

The ability to drop props into the map ingame would be very helpful for testing rendering speeds, so I'd like to figure this out. I tried to spawn models myself and I got the same result you did. I tried a bunch of different paths and names and nothing worked. I'll go look 'round the 'net to see if I can find something.
