has anyone else found that the hammer editors stability has gone to the dogs since the last update? it does nothing but crash over and over for me.

Do you guys leave the Play Games and SDK windows open while mapping? If
so, closing them could help. This is an issue wich more people
experience and it's currently investigated by Valve.

well up until recently i was quite happy to leave hammer open while play testing, now thats a big no no as my normally 60fps can drop to as low as 20 fps, but if i close hammer its happy enough to run to about 40fps (under heavy load)

My HL2 also runs a bit choppy in the game after I compile, but I usually have Winamp, Hammer, mIRC and the net running at the same time, so a little bit can be expected.
Besides that, it still runs fine for me.

Has anyone experienced any problems with your virtual memory while running hammer? My computer has crashed a number of times due to "low system resources". A couple times a window stated that my "virtual memory" was set too low. I increased it but have had the same problem a few times after.

Never run a game while hammer is running, hammer takes up A LOT of RAM,
You should have at least 3 gigs of virtual mem (including however much RAM you have). First get rid of your page file, restart, then set a new page file to at least 1500mb. This way you start with a new clean page file that has no fragments in it. The I would suggest running the disk defragementer, this really increases performance on every compuer (especially Hammer)

I always set my Virtual to double my RAM. In my case I have a gig of RAM so my Virtual is set to 2 gigs. Also I have been running Hammer while testing my map. Seems ok for me right now error free (knock on wood). Mind you my map is very small at the moment. Once I really get into it then I will probly notice the difference.

The launcher seems to prevent the virtual memory from being used, since
problems only arise when 1. the launcher or steam windows are open and
2. main memory gets used up. Whats odd is that is a new thing, it never
used to do this D:

As far as stability I haven't seen much out of the ordinary, though for
me with the new Hammer it will crash if I try to look in the prop
models folder.

Not to brag, but... this is not a problem for me with my 1 gigs of ram
Took all my savings and bought it cuz i got so tired of all this
memory problems. I guess viritual memory wont bother me again until,
like, 2007.
And, no, i think hammer is as stable as usual, i've not been noticing anything strange, but it sounds typical valve to release an update without propertly bugtest it first!

Wow a thread resurection the possiblity of kingtoke answering back is almost next to none. Raptor 3 gigs as in RAM + Page file, I have 1 gig and it works fine.
