To save time developing maps I've downloaded the BSPViewer 1.4.0 by Ryan Gregg. But when trying to load a map it comes up with a dialogue saying:

Error loading: mapname

Does anybody know how to use/ set this utility up for HL2?

I beleive it should be able to view hl2 bsp files. And if it can be used for viewing loading maps faster thna hl2 some time could be used on more editing... [addsig]

Why not just decompile the maps you want to look at. That way you can move around and see how things were done in hammer.
I don't know of any bsp view that works for HL2, CS or HL2DM.

IF you found one you could have provided a link so that we could test it and figure it out together.

link to decompiling CS,HL2, and HL2DM .bsp's.

note to use this you will need gcfscape

According to the author, who should know, BSPviewer is for HL1 maps only.

See the post by Nem, here .

HL2 bsps are differently formatted than the HL1 bsps, its like trying to load a halo .map in Hammer, it just doesnt work.
