I am trying to make it so that the floor to one of my rooms is made up of lots of breakable planks, and that when you step on a plank, it will creak and then break 1 second after.

I have got it working so that all this happens, except the sound won't play. I have an:

[e]ambient_generic[/e]

Name: Creak

Soundname: ambient/misc/wood3.wav

Volume: 10

Startvolume: 0

Max Audible Distance: 875

Inputs:

Source Output Input Delay Once

trigger_once onstarttouch playsound 0.00 yes

Flags:

Play everywhere

Start Silent

Is not looped

Yes. I did put in the inputs to the sound entity.

Is it something to do with soundscapes?

Ah, the sound is playing... but on my computer it is too quiet to hear, I could only hear it when I put sound up full blast. Which is strange because when I had sound up full my footstep sounds were almost breaking my speakers.

Also i used the sound show thing and it definately does play

Any ideas why?

if its a custom sound, i would check it with a sound editor first, making sure my audible levels are up to snuff, tweak as necessary, and go from there....making sure also that the paths are correct....///2 cents...

I had this same problem with certain sounds. They play fine if used in a soundscape but you can hardly hear them if you use the ambient generic.

I have herd that the ambient_generic got broken somehow is some update. Not sure on this.

I use custom soundscapes now and things seem to work fine. Also soundscapes allow you greater control of things and you are able to play random sounds.

im having the same problem, could someome please post a tutorial on how to properly use sound scapes, because I dont get this at all

I have an ambient_generic that is supposed to play, but nothing comes out of it.
it uses .wav and is a normal hl2 sound, it supposed to always be playing and be a loop, but for some reason I can't hear it.

Why is the start volume "0"? Try changing that to 10, otherwise you should alter the "spin-up" settings. [addsig]
