Iv read some threads here talking about smoothing groups, i know what they do, and how they work with lights and stuff, but what i want to know, is HOW to APPLY them to your brushes, i may sound noobish, but its really the first time i know that you can do that in hammer

They are easy, though kinda awkward, to use really. The basic approach
is that you select the faces you want to add to a smoothing group using
the face editor (texture tool), press the "smoothing groups" button,
and then press one of the numbers. While this won't show any visual
effect, you can check what faces are in what groups by changing the
"camera" view from "3D textured" to "3D smooth". When you click on one
of the numbers in the dialog that will pop up, faces in that group will
turn yellow.

I'd imagine it also works on other surfaces, but it's probably not so
noticeable. But hey, some experimenting doesn't hurt, I think...
