Hello. I would like to know how can I use the models I downloaded?
JTWOODS was the file name if I remember it correctly. I have extracted it, but where should I place the files? I have also been thinking, where do those models and textures that are already in HAMMER come from?

Kind of noobie question, I guess.

To use models in HL2, place them in your SteamApps(yourname)half-life 2hl2models. For CS:Source, they go in counter-strike sourcecstrikemodels.

The models, textures and other doodads you see in-game and in Hammer are stored in GCF files in your SteamApps folder. You can open them in a program like GCFScape.

And if noobies didnt ask questions, theyd be noobies forever <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Thanks it worked, but there is new problem now. These models has weird chessboard-like <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> skin. I guess that is default if right one is not found.
What to do?

Thanks for help!

if the model/s that you downloaded contain any .vmt or .vtf files, then you need to put these somewhere in your materials directory. they need to be in a specific folder, because their location is written into the model. to find out what this location would be, you can open the .vmt file in notepad and look for the line that starts with $basetexture. the value would be a folder, relative to your mods materials folder.

for example, $basetexture fishy/foliage, would require the .vtf file to go into my materials/fishy/foliage folder.

another way of finding where files go, is to look at the paths in the winzip archive. but you need to rely on the archive being put together properly if you want that to work.
