I was told I could use a "text editor" to find what is causing the problem in my compile log: "Zero area child patch"

What is a text editor and where can I find one?

A text editor? Use the Notepad. It's simple but it'll do the job.

EDIT:

WRONG POST

This is what should have been said:

Ok well I changed the map to a .txt (after copying the map of course) and it gives me the coordinates and attributes of every brush and entity in the map. Yowza!

In fact It gives me so many brushes that there's no way of finding the problem. Not to mention I don't actually know what i'm looking for. Probably the dimensions of the brushes all looking the same? Here's an example of what I think is a brush:

side
{
"id" "60604"
"plane" "(11008 -409.6 -1272) (11008 -432.64 -1088) (11008 -435.2 -1088)"
"material" "METAL/CITADEL_METALWALL063A_CHEAP"
"uaxis" "[0 -1 0 0] 0.25"
"vaxis" "[0 0 -1 0] 0.25"
"rotation" "0"
"lightmapscale" "16"
"smoothing_groups" "0"

Excuse my intrusion, but why is this blue and only an hour or so old from the first reply?

Accidental?

I agree, Orph.

The text editor refers to a program which opens txt files, or files which are based on lines of text.

In this instance, Notepad would be fine. Use "open with" on Windows XP right click, or change program extensions via Folder Options on other Windows.

Other off topic questions should be put in a new topic.

No biggie. I was gone for nearly 3 days on my last run and was just mildly curious is all. I suggest that if you cannot EDIT your own thread mistake next time, that you contact an admin. Someone may stumble across this in the future and get frustrated trying to decipher the mishap.
