Interesting little problem I have here. I've started working on a fortress forever map. Unfortunately it does not have any entities or prefabs yet, so I'm basically just brushing it out in hl2dm. Anyhow, I compiled and ran a test version which was fine, but after this everytime I go to play CS:S my specular is all crazy and shiney. For example, all player models are unbelievably reflective and blinding in fact. I found one piece of information that I could use mat_fastspecular 0 in the console and it would remove specular rendering, thus solving the problem. But I have a very high end computer, and I prefer to not lose the glossy feel on some of the textures. Does anyone know what would have caused this? And why hl2dm affected CS:S? Thanks.

It wasnt your fault, Valve just updated Source and now everythings shiny. All you can do really is put up with it until they fix it.

Oh really? I couldn't find any other information on it indicating that anyone else was having the problem. Thanks for the info

Yeah we started a thread in the general board about it, whether we've noticed the changes or not:

edit: this wasnt meant as an insult, it was just something to read on the subject
