Hey guys...

I have a problem concerning my map and I did not find any solution for this anywhere. Im creating an outdoor map, using loads of displacements (the complete surroundings are displacement) and when I compile and play the map, everything looks just fine. Except one thing. While moving around, brushes in the map disappear and reappear again when I move further on. For as far as I can see those brushes have no displacement surface, but not all those brushes disappear. For example, I have a big bridge in the middle of the map with pillars supported by multiple metal poles (looks like the framework of a crane) and some brushes of those metal poles disappear, others dont.

Im not sure about this, but I think it has to do something with the displacements I use but I do not know what.

The map is not leaked. And as far as I know I do not have any compile errors.

I would be pleased if anyone can help me with that.

Regards,

KidDeath

Increase the sight distance in the map properties. This could/should solve your woes.

I have a suggestion, because I had the same problem last year. I started a topic on it, and got an answer for it. Here's the link: http://www.snarkpit.net/forums.php?forum=3&topic=3418

Hope it helps. Cheers

Well, to make it easier for you, so you don't have to read all that if you don't want to, the guys just basically said that you should set your video mode to Direct 3D instead of Software.

One more thing. My topic was about Half Life 1 editing, so this might not work. I haven't tried it, because I don't have Half Life 2 at the moment, nor do I have Hammer Editor for HL2.

thx for ur answer orpheus... Im gonna try that out as soon as im back home... unfortunately close solids disappear too so maybe its another problem... any other ideas...

Ill let u know if the increased draw distance worked... thx for ur help so far...

If its anything close, you might need to post a screenshot. A nice low file sized jpg.

I am not sure if HL2 has such anymore, but invalid solids used to have a HOM effect that looked missing.

*shrugs*

Post that screen.

Are you using a 3D skybox by any chance?

When I was working on a map the other day (dm_tower_arena_v2) I noticed something wierd that I'd never seen before... solids, or even parts of solids, were dissappearing when you looked at them from certain angles (or not appearing at all).

It turns out that the problem was caused by my accidentally having two sky_camera entities in my map. (oops)

Well, I think I deleted the sky_camera entity in my map, so only the one in the skybox remaining... maybe Ill just delete the skybox for once and try it out then...

Concerning the draw distance, err, I looked for it, I really did, but I didnt find out where to increase it... there was no such option under map proberties...

No screenshot yet though, caz I tried out if it was a lighting problem and added some light_enviroment entitys but they didnt light anything, so after compiling for 40 mins there was just nothing to see... Im gonna post the screen tomorrow... Im gonna try and mark the solids in Hammer which disappear... maybe that helps...

HL2 may be totally different. I do know however that it can be increased, I just don't know where its now located.

It used to be in the MAP properties, not the regular properties.

Look in the same place that you set the sky choice.

Well, thx for all your help but I gave it up... I started a new map, with displacements again, this time they work for some reason...

If you wanna have a look at the map go to: www.mint-gaming.co.uk , go for the forums and look under CSS map development. The topic is called de_bridge_reedited.
