I was just wondering if anyone knows how to add video clips to maps in HL2Dm, because I was playing a map that had an episode of family guy on a TV screen...PLEASE REPLY!

This is an article on how to do it in HL1:

I might assume that it could be done in HL2 also......but with the help of lots of coding. So without coding your own mod I don't think its possible.

Well, we can assume that the map he saw didn't change any code
Um, you can make an animated texture and then have a sound entity connected to the animation entity.
Here's a tutorial on that from hl2world.com
http://www.hl2world.com/wiki/index.php/AnimatedTextures
You'd have to get every frame of the animation you want to use and transfer them to a TGA then use vtex with some commands and some configuration files for it to be rendered properly (depending on whether you're putting the texture on a brush or a model!)
You can record the sounds seperately and play it seperately too, just have them begin at the same point.
http://www.hl2world.com/wiki/index.php/MP3s_and_custom_sounds_on_your_map
Anyway, it sounds like a pain in the ass, but I'm sure it works well!
Give it a try with something small to start out. Once you get the hang of it, then try something larger. I'm not sure what the limitations of the texture are, however. Meaning, how many frames you can have or the resolution. It's possible it could be many thousands of frames (millions?!) and mega pixels large. But, I don't think that'd run well for the most part. Try it!
One other thing!
If you just want a "TV show" of something that uses models and such, that can be done with a camera entity inside a seperate box somewhere in the map (outside the playable area) You can also make a TV with change-able channels ... probably volume too.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

i tried to use the mod that omega linked to, ages ago, to record a demo of a bunch of tfc players in a small cinema, all watching a tfc skills flick. the scene itself was pretty cool, but on playback of the demo, the cinema screen was blank. :/
pretty good that it can play high definition, large filesize avi's, 'though.
i eat paint
