Hey guys,

I was just wondering if you know how to get the models used in episode one to be viewable in the HL2 model viewer. I've tried everything, I've extracted the model folder for hl: epy 1 and named it "models 2" and put it in the "HL2" folder so that I could get to it in the overly controlled model loading screen. But when I click on the models the program crashes. Please help me out? I really want to look at the models in more detail. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

What GCF did you "unpack"?
it should be (I think) "episode 1 shared".

Did you keep the file structre intact?
HL2 is very anal about keeping file structre with its content.

Also how did you go about loading it in the model viewer?
you should see it in the "load model" command and browse around to find it.

Yea it was 'episode one shared,' sorry I would have said that but I forgot the exact name. I didnt want to mess up the game so I kept HL2's model folder in the hl2 folder and just took the extracted model folder from 'episode one shared' and named it "models 2" So to say it simply I have two model folders in the hl2 folder "models" and "models 2."

hope this helps.

I think there in lies the answer. You need to keep the file path the same. In other words you need to have the folder named "models", not "models2". Because the model viewer needs to load everything (animations/skins) and that specific models skin/animation isn't located in the "models2" folder, but in the "models" folder.

And you need not worry about destroying the [root]half-life 2hl2models folder because steam will pop any "needed" models into that directory. What you need to do is back up that folder (just in case), then extract all those HL2E1 models into that directory.
