I'm really sorry if this has been posted before, or is in a tuorial, I may have overlooked it by accident.

My problem is, when I follow the "how to make a sky" tutorial, I get no result, simple black in the background. I've read plenty of skybox tutorials, but it still doesn't seem to make sense. Can someone explain, simply how I create sky?

"Map -> Map Properties -> Skybox Texture name = sky_day03_06"

is currently what I have.

Excuse the newbie question please, I actually started trying to make maps last night and am learning alot just by reading around here. So also thank you to everyone for posting those tuts.

Hi, there are a couple things you should have a look at right off the bat:


  • Is your map sealed off with the tools/toolsskybox material?
  • Are there any leaks in your map? These can cause major problems.

Thanks, I just realised that I had no box surrounding the level withe the tools/toolsskybox texture.

Sorry if this was some sort of inconveiience.

I feel dumb now
