You're joking, right?
Decreasing the grid size works wonders. " SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

Like Orpheus said, use the bracket keys to alter the grid size. [ makes it smaller, ] makes it bigger. You can see the current grid size on the bottom right hand corner of Hammer.

One of these days Omega, I am going to take a screenshot of what each button does in hammer and post it in some sort of an unofficial tutorial.
Questions like this one, are simple but aggravating as hell for the new mapper who was very serious when they couldn't find the answer for themselves.
I can only imagine the frustration of needing a 1 grid solid, and not knowing about the grid size adjustment tool.
BTW, scrolling your wheel mouse button will zoom in and assist in adjusting grid sizes. Sometimes you cannot see the true grid size because you are zoomed "IN" or "Out" to far.

If you have a non-english keyboard chances are there are no "bracket keys" and you have to use the grid-buttons in the upper tool bar.

This is true, but a lot of redneck's answers could have been found out by simply experimenting with the f***ing program. Or even searching for more than 5 seconds:

Ive just learned to sit out and shut up for these kinds of threads
BTW here is your tool bar:
