I was wondering what people thought to having a single player mod for Counter Strike source, nothing too amazing or complicated, but perhaps something with training levels and what not so people can learn to play from the basics and play some of the maps and get used to them and what not.
If anyone is willing to help out then let me know, i didn't want to start anything until i knew some people supported the idea.

Yeah, if you wanted to actually create a narrative with allies and enemies that act a certain way, that would need modding, but if you just want to train people on how to play CS:S, then just make a map with some text entities (I don't remember what they're called) that say "Training map" or something" and describe the layout of the map and certain objectives if you have certain objects. No modding is requires to do that, since, as Fishy said, there are bots in CS:S.
If you want to do the first thing I described: yes, you can. But if you're asking if it's even possible, I doubt you'd get very far. First off: you wouldn't mod counterstrike ... ever. You would mod hl2 sp or mp. After all CS is a mp mod of hl2. So, more likely, you'd mod hl2sp then bring in all the CS:S content into your mod folder. From there, you'd have to mess with the NPCs and things like that. And then from that, you'd have to create the maps, unless you can get the sources to the maps that already exist in CS:S, which I don't think valve will give you, and I don't suggest decompiling them, since you'll get a mess.
So ... anyway, if you want to make a training map, read up on the entities that output messages to the screen on triggers. You can, also, restrict bots in CS:S to a specific weapon or weapon class, so that will be useful. I'm not sure if you can do that from the map or not, but at the least you can do it when you make the server. All you'd have to do is include some sort of readme explaining what to do. It isn't very complicated so if people don't get it, look at it as a weeding out process.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

The source of de_cbble is already available as an example map and decompiling Source maps in general gives very useable results.
Anyway, as far as a training level goes, that's one thing I missed in CSS as CS did have such a level. With pop-up cardboard targets and automated machineguns as 'enemies'.
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> I wonder if many people will need it though, given the popularity of CS/CSS these days.

Hmmm this collection of training maps seems like a good and fun thing to do. I will look into the creation of this soon once i have my latest map completed (cs_escape).
Thank you for the help peeps. If you want to lend a hand with the future development of these maps let me know. Drop me a message anytime.
