Hey guys! This is probably an easy one for the experienced mappers here.

I'm just mucking around with a layout for a tunnel section. I threw some textures at it just to get an idea of how it can look before I do some custom textures, but when I apply the texture to the tunnel walls it c**ks up half way up the wall. The texture seems to rotate 90 degrees. Is there any way to right this without mucking around with rotation values and stretch values?

Also, why do some textures kinda flash on and off in Hammer? Is this a GFX card problem? They work fine in-game.

Well this is an easy one (I think): you are using model textures on those pipes. I don't know why they become available in the texture browser in hammer, there should be a filter, but they ARE labeled. It says down at the bottom in the texture browser next to the "filter" box: models/props/metalladder02 or something. It labels the model name. The solution: don't use them or change them to an "unlitgeneric" shader type in the .vmt and move it out of the models folder.

All I can say about the rotated texture is: make sure your pressing "apply" after rotating it, and yes you do have to rotate it in the texture editor.

Cheers Riven.

Pah, that sucks! Still having some trouble getting my head around the way Hammer applies surface texture to brushes! I made a hole, and when I added the texture around the edge, that wouldn't tile either. Oh well.

Pah, man, that REALLY sucks. I would have thought the Treat As One option in face edit sheet would do the trick.

select a face that is already textured the way that you want it, then hold down ALT and right-click on the neighbouring face. that aligns the textures perfectly.

select a texture, hold down Ctrl and right-click on a brush to apply the texture to ALL faces of that brush.

Cheers Fishy, I'll give that a shot! That sounds exactly like what I need. I'll mark it as correct, because even if it doesn't work for me, anyone else looking for an answer to this problem could benefit from knowing that.

I thought it would be a little weird if you couldn't align textures semi-automatically, though!

Swapped the texture on the pipe for another one designed for use on a map, and it works perfectly in Hammer, no flashing.

Nice work Riven and Fishy.

Works perfectly! Thanks Fishy!
