I don't get it, I tried all the usual things but Hammer acts ridiculously slow. It loads a map fine, but after looking around for a few seconds every click is followed by a .5 second delay and then... it get's even slower until a crash-like state.

Yesterday, it worked just fine with the same settings, hardware and map.

Mysterious!

so try system restore - wont hurt. you can always undo it, and if you say it was working yesterday it could be something that changed that you didn't know about.

I turned out to be Steam problem indeed. It reloaded my SDK and the lag is gone. Seems like incorrect resource files caused a never ending loading spiral.
