Great technique, but there are other ways to do it ... like using Audacity, a free sound editor.

What if we use XP? How do we use sound recorder then? Would of been nice to hear some of your creations as well. And most importantly, wht o we do with our sound files once we've made then? Which didrectry do they go in?

Kudos for using the word "onomatopoeia" (and correctly too!).

Seems like a pretty cool idea for gamers who get bored of thier sounds, though downloading existing sound packs is so much easier :P

It depends on the weapon you're making them for. Go to your Half-Life folder and from there into your mod directory (e.g. cstrike, dod, ns, gearbox etc). From there go sound/weapons and find the .wav file(s) which currently represents the gun you are making the sound for (i.e if you are making an AK-47 sound, there are two: ak47-1.wav and ak47-2. wav) that you must back up in a safe place.
Then copy your custom sound into the weapons folder under the same name (i.e. save it as ak47-1.wav AND ak47-2.wav) However, there aren't always two or more or one gun (it depends on the mod.) There could be only the one. In that case, only save over that file.
Btw Myrk, it's all part of turning your game into an art form. =)

Another way to get cool gunshot sounds is to tap the microphone with a pencil. Seriously, it really works!
