This was a big help, but for some reason it didn't work on the first compile. I changed nothing, compiled again, and then it worked.
*shrug*

You have to surround it with sky texure still, yes (though a box isn't the best way to do it). We don't actually do anything different to the main map- all you need to do is make this miniature landscape in a box somewhere outside your level, and put in a sky_camera entity.

I knew the basics before but there were a couple stuff in there that i didnt know. now i can stop asking myself why my 3d skybox looks like crap.
well written and clear as well.

This tutorial helped me immensely during my first attempts at a 3D skybox. Very clear and simple.

However, is it just me or is this paragraph redundant?

"Move your mini-scenery to somewhere outside your map, and enclose it in a skybox- you can just make a cube around it with the tools/toolsskybox texture and hollow it out. Delete the original reference geometry and the original sky_camera entity, and edit the new one, setting the scale to be 16 (or whatever scaling you just used to transform the reference geometry)."

Hasn't that information already been covered in the previous paragraph?

Very helpful, and repetition can, and often is good. You can miss something when you read the first time, and sometimes restating it will help someone if they understand it not the first time. Good job!

I coudlnt change the texture size after I had rescaled the brushes. I typed the new texture size in and hit 'apply' but it didnt do anything.
