Well, I don't know if you read my first comment, but I think if you took the "theme" (ie. wet moonlit night) you've already got going, and just expanded on this map it could turn out pretty well. Just think of something that would look good soaked in rain, in the middle of the night. A construction site? A complex with open courtyards? Make use of your imagination...
OK, OK, I wont make Killboxes.
I didnt know people hated them that much. I barely even new what a killbox was! (Its my first map using hammer)
Ill try to make a new map, not a killbox, any suggestions of a theme, cuz im freshout?

Killboxes are the worst maps out at the moment.
I joined a server and it was like killbox hell cause every new map was just a killbox with new stuff such as grass or fire :/

you want me to do the work for him?
OK.. jinx makes great arena maps..and cash_car_star makes great arena maps.. in fact, i been thinking we need to update the maps area to include map themes in the search.. to include these things so people can click on a map type and search or avoid in this case certain types.
damn, it doesn't take a rocket scientist here. its a box.
as far as it being a first map.. "its a great looking box"
[edit] before the crying commences. I honestly feel that ANY MAP that complies erroneously has merit, even these gawd awful killboxes, but i do not get all wet between my thighs over them like some of these... what exactly would you call someone who likes killboxes anyways?
I have critiqued prolly a couple thousand maps in the past few years so i have a basic understanding of "what" is a good map. I am not going out of my way to harm anyone, i just hate for them to begin their career this way. someday they will look back and wonder why they ever made this.
killboxes are synonymous with "stupid" people, whether they deserve the title or not its still branded upon them..
do be branded stupid over a killbox
there are so many types of maps to make, make one of those.

That's helpful to the author
It looks like a decent first map/start, but try to make something with form- buildings with roofs, doors, windows, corridors, big open interesting areas- like in real life (or movies). A box with some models and weapons in it is neither interesting to us nor something you should be proud of!
You should also distribute your BSP inside a .ZIP or .RAR file, since it cuts down on download sizes and lets you group together your read me and any custom resources.

I wish people would stop calling killboxes "arena" maps.
there are so many examples of a proper arena map that they should be able to ascertain that there is a difference in theme and style.
people boxes are not arenas, in spite of the fact that arenas have the action in the center of the map.
*sighs*
killboxes..

HL2 is not installed on my computer at the moment, so these comments are from the 1 shot you provided.
I like the idea of a flooded combat area. I like the rain, and I like the light environment color although it seems a little bright even for a full moon. However, wouldn't the map be more interesting with some other light sources besides a single light environment? Perhaps some recessed lights in the walls or some light spots shining down into the wet pit? Doing a good and original job lighting your map can do wonders.
However, with these details aside, there's one huge problem with your map as I see it. It's a hollow box without a roof, with some props scattered throughout and some decals sprayed on the wall and floor. You've obviously got a decent grip on the basics, so why don't you create something more inspired? Something with more than one room?
I like the wet moonlight theme you've got going, but I don't like how it's only a killbox. In playtests did the fact that you could see everyone at all times make it boring? I think you could go a long way if you decided to create a DM map with multiple rooms and multple connections/routes. This is a sentiment I'm sure almost everyone shares.
