Looks beautiful, very detailed & realistic for a rural area. Nice sky happening here too. Might end up with Band of Brothers-style gameplay - I can imagine an MG42 gunner spraying fire into the fields while the Allies are prone hiding in the wheat.

Very good looking, but already judging by the r_speeds I can tell that it won't exactly play smoothly. If you want the map to be aptly played then I suggest a little reserve is needed on the detail, if you just want eye-candy then continue.

Thanks for the encouraging posts guys.

Your second assessment of the map is right Gorbachev, at the moment my mapping is focusing on "eye candy", or what I like to call realism, at the expense of the r_speeds. The maps will still run in HL but are best used on a LAN between decent computers.

The idea is that when HL2 eventually comes out there will be less tweaking for me to do when I convert them to HL2. The maps are ultimately being made for HL2 and all the mods when they are changed over, but as they are now they are made for HL.

This is a a discussion topic for the map "dod_rural" by Agent Smith which can be found here
Map description:
The map is called dod_rural (working title) and is set in the middle of some large wheat fields in Normandy early on D-Day morning. The main feature is a train station, a long section of track and a dirt road that runs along both. The train station has been temporarily converted into a German Panzer division field HQ and is protected from aerial assault by two flak 88's. There are only three panzers remaining and are under repairs, the others having been sent to the front.
The allies are US paratroopers who have landed in the fileds down the road from the station, and their goal is to capture the flak 88's and train station, and take out the three imobalized panzers using satchel charges and a bazooka.
The axis have to defend the station, the tanks and the 88's from the allied assault.
The objectives are close together, making it slightly easier for the allies in that respect, but the challenge for the allies is managing to get to the station. The allies have to advance along a stretch of road and rail lines, with little cover besides the odd burnt out vehicle and ditch. the station itself is also easily defendable, as it is a fixed position and the germans are dug in.
so far I have only made the station, but more is comming soon.
