Minimicus is my recently released single-player mod for Half-Life. It has been reviewed at Hangar16 and got 4 out of 5 stars! During the game, the player gets shrunk and fights grunts and headcrabs that are invading a house. This mod includes an interesting cut-scene involving a microwave and a Gonarch. Let me know if you like it! -slay

Awesome! The only problem is that it ended way too soon, and I wanted to carry on!

I thought this game was great. I have always wanted to be the size of mouse and now you can! Though now i don't think
I want to be anymore. The camera scripts were great. I know that they can be very hard to get right but they were perfect! I would play this several times and never get tired of it.

That was great fun. I especially like the microwave and the lasers at the end. Some great scripting. smiley A bit hard though.

I downloaded it and tried it. It's really cool. You have some pretty nice scripting there. I especially like fighting the grunts at the end in the kitchen. Nice work on this. =]

This Map is Awesome. Short, but most excellent I give you 5 out of 5. You should make a Sequel.

If you're one of those types that looks at a map's screenshots and judges how good the map is based off just that, you'll surely pass up one of the most enjoyable mods released for HL, Minimicus. Even though it's only a few maps long, I can guarantee that it uses more entities than all of my maps (including unreleased) combined.

The intro has miniature commandos running into a small crack in the wall before firing a rocket at you, which explodes into a display of the mod title. Naturally, you have to get shrunk yourself in order to give chase.

Once you do, it turns into a form of Rats map, albeit in a more entertaining fashion. You'll have to take down those pesky military grunts who've really set up shop in the surrounding area. Not to say that grunts are everywhere, but rather that you're most definitely on the offensive, and considering how many of the grunts have grenades... you better stay on the offensive.

One of the best scenes in the mod is a cutscene where the grunts are playing with a microwave, though watch out, there'll be a LOT of grunts if you just run through without bothering to kill the ones on your tail!

The best effect, however, is at the very end when lasers spell out "The End" for you on the wall... the most visually stunning thing I've seen using HL's base entities.

Sadly, the architecture is not so attractive, with rooms that are mostly inhabited by prefabs or relatively boxy construction. There are some nice touches, though, such as the HEV room (which, of course, uses oodles of entities). The lighting is equally unimpressive; uniformly drab lighting really doesn't look very nice, and not many lighting differences outside of brightness.

However, if you're one of those players who's able or at least willing to ignore the outer beauty (graphics) for the undeniably greater inner beauty (gameplay & general fun), this is definitely something to pick up.

Verdict

Wonderful mappack for the player who can sacrifice graphics for gameplay
