Map Description

This map has a discussion topic which can be visited here

This is a lobby to a hotel that I created. I used the reflection method like the tutorial I created; Reflective Surfaces. The map is for TS and will probably only support a 2-3 player battle. Please let me know any ideas you have for me to change it in any way.

One thing to notice is the r_speeds; they are high because the map is there two times for the reflection effect.

Also, the map has been updated with some more detail than what those pictures present.

Why haven't you pimped this at the TS forums? It looks a little to shiney...

Looks really swish Tyler. I love the reflections and use of fades. The only things i could say would be that i dont like the shape of the pillars, seems kind off odd. And the texture around the windows (thick black border) gives it a semi-cell shaded comic look. Probably just my gay opinon though smiley Looks sweet, keep it up smiley

Heh, at first I thought the red floor was a pool of blood across all the floors. I'm weird. Looks quite nice, though smiley

Hey looks real good, real profellional and all, only problem I had with it was trying to get it out of the rar file, in the end I had to get a trial version of the thing that unpacks it, but since i got over that ill give it a 5/5.

Campaignjunkie: I never even thought about that! I scaled up the textures really high, deleted even more brushes. The r_speeds dropped drastically. Some changes were also made to the brushwork in the map.

Expect a new download soon.

One way to lower r_speeds; lower the detail on the reflection portion of the map (i.e. replace 8-sided cylinders with blocks, scale certain textures up). The player generally won't notice it. I was confronted with a similar problem in one of my own maps, and that's basically what I did - most of the people I showed it to didn't even notice. You just have to be a bit trickier/sly than usual. smiley

I agree with A_S here. far too many gray walls around. It's nice otherwise though (as long as it's playable in the r_speeds side). You could break it up with objects like he said, but maybe something more drastic? Colour some full section of the wall/ceiling differently maybe?

Looks nice. smiley In the first pic, I'd seperate those panes of glass in the middle with a small pillar, though, so you can't see how they're mis-aligned. Since I don't think it'd be possible to align 'em and stuff.

Looks very well built. All the grey makes it seem a little dull in places though. Maybe add a couple of paintings to the walls.
