Snarkpit 2004 "Original theme" mapping contest entry.

This map placed joint third in the voted category despite very stiff competition. Its a <B>tad</B> too large and open for the aging HL engine, with the skybox using about 99% of the x/y grid in hammer, and most of that being taken up by a giant fully viewable volcano island. That said, it does run and can be fun with 3 or 4 people running around. Weapons and armour are dished out when you spawn as the map is pushing the engine enough as it without placing loads of items around.

I would play it, but I won't have half life installed till I get my new HD in about a week, I have no more than 50 meg left [addsig]

The VIS alone would have taken 5 days ... dunno 'bout the RAD. Anyway, it would have took you lifetimes.

The grass edges are done using a masked texture, kindly made by Adam Hawkins. As its colour matches the grass colour it merges, and makes it look pretty awesome when viewed while standing on the grass looking outward.

Interesting, how did you work out the little bits of grass that stick up here and there? (Haven't played it yet, so...)

Well if the water wasn't fatal you could run all over a huge area, which would ruin gameplay more than instant death. Huge r_speeds was inherent with the design smiley There are 3 sharks, which means its 3 times as good smiley

This map has one thing going for it: <br> <br>Unique Look ...and a shark (it is fun to ride him) <br> <br>ok, thats 2 things. <br> <br>r_speeds are strenuous, and I am wondering why the water is instantly fatal... This map is a uniquely cool feeling experience, however I dont know how well it suits multiplayer.

Well, it looks great anyway ... I really like the shape if the island, and the skull thing is very cool.

And according to my calculations it would have taken 5,1 days.
