alright thanks for the comments. I know the architecture sucks and would have worked on that if it wern't for the deadline . It's the first town map i ever made and i'm now practicing to get better at modelling some nice architecture. oh yea sorry if i insulted the webcoder here but its becos myrk asked me to post this map here and i couldnt because there was no form so i had to go to IE and post it there and that wouldnt work to because i had to submit my map first and didnt know where to do that so i didnt really care about posting it here anymore. But then myrk said i shud just post it at general and he'd move it then |
I wouldn't worry about it, it's not a big issue
I just mentioned so you know for the future, if you decide to stay as a long term member
Everyone is welcome here
You didn't insult the webcoder, we just clarified that he does try his hardest to make sure the site works in IE/Mozilla/Opera etc...
Take my comments with a pinch of salt, they were only light-hearted ![]()
P.S. Myrk- is a big mong
*beats him with a thorny stick*

Eeek, its not linked up to a map in his profile...insanity!
Looking at the screenshots again, there are definately areas which could have used work, but I appreciate you were working to a deadline. The harbour is the primary area of concern - the wharfs are extremely boring and unrealistic. How did you do the sea? Is it a skybox, or is a a hugely stretched texture to suggest the scale? Or is it some crazy combination
It looks good in the screenshots, but if its a skybox it would look wierd as it wouldn't move as you move
Another issue is that the map looks good but I think thats mostly due to the textures. Thats not a bad thing, especially considering you made them yourself, but I do feel its rather bland architecturally in parts. Most buildings for instance are just nicely textured boxes.
/me reminds self this is the HL engine, and thats to be expected in a town map
EDIT: My new lines still aren't actually coming out as new lines! I'd best shimmy over to the suggestions and bugs thread. [addsig]

That's quite a way to make an introduction...
The map, I think, was not planned out very well. For every little part that's very crisp and good looking, you have some hugely overscaled texture or lighting error right next to it. I remember seeing the arched walkway for the first time, and thinking wow... it looked so good after flying through a bunch of totally square buildings.
The sea transition is very, very good, except for the graininess of the texture.
I gotta ask, though, did they really deliver on the 200 dollars?
