So, you want to create your own worlds & planetary environments for Jedi Knight 2 ? Let's get the tools first.
(In this guide, I will describe the installation of the tools for Jedi Outcast, but it's mainly the same for Jedi Academy.)
First, we have to get JK2Radiant. It's your workspace, the tool to build the maps. (what Hammer/Quark is for Half-Life, for example.)
Raven Software, the developers of the new Jedi Knight Series (and the lucky bitches who added KungFuSquirrel to their personnel recently
), released a package of tools for mappers, to get you started. Download it here. It's important you get the update for those tools too, get them here.
Unzip those 2 files to your Gamedata directory. (make sure you unzip the update after you unzipped the first file.) I cannot stress this hard enough. If you don't extract them to that folder, you will not be able to play your maps, and you will not have acces to the textures. The default install path is c:program fileslucasartsStar Wars JK II Jedi Outcast, so the files should go in c:program fileslucasartsStar Wars JK II Jedi Outcastgamedata. (of course, if you installed the game somewhere else, these paths will be different, but just make sure you extract those files to the Gamedata folder)
Then, we'll also need Pakscape to publish our map to .pk3 files. Just grab it from the snarkpit here. Again, make sure you extract it to the right folder, which is gamedata/tools now.
Ok, then let's start Radiant for the first time ! Fasten your seatbelts, Dorothy, 'cause Kansas is going bye-bye ! (Don't panic if it takes a while to load, the first time Radiant does the indexing of the textures ... and there are tons of textures
)
You'll see a screen popup, where you have to specify various paths. Again, the keyword in this tutorial, provide the right path, or check the paths if they are already filled in.

- Basepath should refer to ...Star Wars JK II Jedi OutcastGamedatabase (mind the double backslash at the end !)
- Mapspath should refer to ...Star Wars JK II Jedi OutcastGamedatabasemaps. (again, mind the double backslash after the gamedata folder, but not after the base folder !) This is the folder where you will find your compiled maps.
- rshcmd can remain empty.
- Remotebasepath should refer to ...Star Wars JK II Jedi OutcastGamedatabase
- Entitypath should refer to ...Star Wars JK II Jedi OutcastGamedatatoolsSP_entities.def This is where all the game entities are defined.
- Texturepath should refer to ...Star Wars JK II Jedi OutcastGamedatabasetextures This is where the textures are stored.

Let's get mappin'
