This map comes straight from Gearbox (a semi-exclusive to the SnarkPit, as it was sent to D33 by a Gearbox level designer). It's a tiny CTF map designed for around 4 players on a LAN, which was first seen as an example MAP in the OP4CTF developer's kit.
It's two open bases, separated by an icy pond. Each base has two spawn rooms, fairly out of the way of any action, which lead into the one room that is your base. The bases are essentially just large rooms, with an open front door and some windows at the top to snipe from. Lying around each base are some powerful weapons, such as the SAW, RPG and displacer, but it doesn't matter that these weapons are easy to reach, as so few people should be playing this map that it doesn't give them an advantage.
In fact, it's hard for either team to gain an advantage over the other (if the players are equal in number and skill). If you die, you're back playing again in less than 10 seconds, and have an RPG in your hands. This does mean that it can become quite hard to capture the flag, but as the bases are so open it's easy to take out anyone who's camping inside.
The powerups are also well done- there aren't any longjump or ammo powerups, meaning that no-one is virtually invincible. The only quibble I had with the map is the r_speeds you will experience (800+ in the base), but doing anything to fix these would stifle the fast game play.
So overall, a nicely balanced map that is a blast to play against a small number of friends, preferably on a home LAN.
Design
Lighting is fairly dull, but it suffices. Makes me feel cold, anyway. 4 marks.
Gameplay
Very enjoyable to play, but only if there aren't too many people. Or it's just madness. 4 marks.
Verdict
Adds to an excuse to get a LAN if you don't have one already.
Pros
Frantic CTF action
Design
Too small & Nnnrgh r_speeds
