Anybody work with softimage xsi rendermap? I'm having a hard time rendermaping my tank for the ambient occlusion and the tga to texture it with. I have tried merging the meshes, grouping every variation I can think of in texture projection settings and rendermap to get it to work and no luck. It just doesn't turn out right.
It's either missing some parts or totally off the wall shapes.
Seems to be my fate always running into problems.

I've dabbled a little bit with the material texture engine of Softimage. I currently own a copy of v7.5, but last I messed with the render tree was back in v4.2

What I remember though is the Render Tree (hotkey is '7' I think) is of the utmost importance. If you aren't using that, then the render property windows can be pretty confusing.

If you haven't checked out the Softimage Wiki, then I urge you to start looking there first. Otherwise, if that isn't your cup of tea, try some of the video tutorials on YouTube.

I've used the render tree to set it up, and also used the texture projection rendermap method from the toolbars. I can get a rendermap with AO but it's nothing I can build a texture onto. Its either ten thousand small pieces or something extremely F-ed up.
What I can't get are all the major faces of the model like you see on the model textures (VTF) in the game.
I'm using softimage\xsi 2011 so I can't say what's changed since then as I used the mod tool b4.
I tried splitting the mesh edges and using the texture editor also w\o much luck. Granted this is a learning experience for me.
I asked my son in law about it, but Valve uses Modo now so he wasn't much help. :(
