dm_zakks_house is a map based on the layout of my house.
There are tons of throwable objects, making this a gravity
gun-based map. It's rather small, and I doubt it would go
over too well on a full 8-player server - 6 players might
be comfortable.

What's new since Beta 1:
  • Higher ceilings, slightly larger rooms
  • Removed some smaller props and disabled pickup of them
  • Added doorframes
  • Improved upon outdoors area - still inaccessible
  • Retextured some areas
  • Removed heat haze effects
  • And tons more little things.....
Thanks to all PHL members (and Rimmer) who playtested with me.

dm_barrel_arena is a map that takes place in an arena that the Combine have built in an almost deserted area. There is a bit of civilization around, but the area is mostly abandoned.

The arena is full of explosive barrels which respawn after ten seconds. There is a tall pole in the center of the arena with a few platforms that surround it. One platform is reached via a ladder; the other is accessible via a teleporter located in a partially hidden room. The map is intended for about 8 players, although even just 4 makes for some good fun.

If you feel you're good with the gravity gun, toss some barrels around. If you have better aim, fire right at your target, or at the barrels near him. Or, if you're better at sniping, try the top platform with the crossbow on it, but beware; there are numerous drawbacks to staying up there.

All weapons but the RPG are present. Map performance is good; if there's lots of activity your fps may dip down a bit but shouldn't go lower than any place in overwatch. The map contains custom decals (spraypaint/graffiti logos, etc) - embedded directly into the BSP file. It's more fun than it looks, trust me; I've had a lot of fun making this and testing with friends. Please try this before you flame or anything... after you try it, if you still hate it, feel free to flame away. Thanks to everyone involved:

Credits ("thanks")....
Thanks to Don King Porn (especially!), shifty mcgoo, Edoc'sil, Tantalus, BlkPnthr, ShyGuy, qwm, and Arnold J. Rimmer for beta testing and/or providing decals for use in the map and/or feedback and/or 'moral' support... ;) Also, thanks to wisemx/AnkleBones for helping me with several things, as well as quite a few people at the Source SDK forums - too many to list - thanks for everything. Hope I'm not leaving anyone out; if so, truly sorry. Let me know. :)

Enjoy...

dm_residential is a map centered around a 3-way intersection in a residential neighborhood, with a hill and seven accessible buildings in the vicinity. It takes place around early morning (or late evening); most of the lighting in the level comes from streetlights and building illumination. All of the accessible buildings have their own interiors and several ways of entry and exit, providing many potential routes around and throughout the map.

Beta 3 was released on August 8, 2007. The final version, assuming all goes well, should be released in a few weeks (almost surely before September) with only some minor tweaks to the beta 2 design.

You can check out some discussion and work-in-progress screenshots in the forum thread (see below). Thanks for looking!
