Late entry

Sun Oct 5th 2003 at 1:18pm by Leperous

Quick note that Campaignjunkie has submitted a late (beta) map to the competition- doesn't bother me as I can't mark these things until I get a big exam out of the way next week- but go give it a look if you haven't already (via the competition page). And the rest of them too if you haven't already!

Competition voting b0rked

Sat Oct 4th 2003 at 1:18pm by Leperous

Er, someone left quite a large loophole in the map voting system which would let people vote multiple times for the same map, so I've had to clean out all the votes- i.e. could you all please take 10 seconds to go and re-vote! Thanks, and sorry...

And before anyone else asks, you have until this time next week to vote, assuming there aren't any more crazy loopholes :/

Competition Entries

Well, we got 9 entries which isn't bad for a prize-less competition for a 5 year old game! You can go vote for your favourite map by clicking on the link on the left there, and we (i.e. me) will judge them all sometime fairly soon.

El Competitiono

A reminder that your entries to the "half-arsed concept art competition" have to be in tomorrow at the latest. So far we have had a massive 5 entries (all of them looking pretty impressive though)- get a move on if you're one of those people I know still working, or if you haven't got a reply to your map submission e-mail then please re-send it.

Ooops

Sorry about that downtime, some crazy bug with the database software and dodgy coding methinks. The search pages (i.e. in the editing section and on the forums) were what caused the problem, so they've been crippled a bit for now but have no fear, a full boolean search is on it's way... Anyway, carry on :)

Prefabs

Fri Sep 5th 2003 at 12:19pm by Leperous

Just a quick note to say that you can now add prefabs via the control panel and they'll appear on our files page. You'll be allowed to upload more file types in the near future, such as map models (in anticipation of HL2 and TF2), but I'm taking a couple of weeks off from coding and whatnot before my brain melts...

Bugs

Sat Aug 30th 2003 at 11:46pm by Leperous

Just a quick note to tell those people who've tried changing their e-mail address or lost their passwords to basically 'try again' as there were some problems with those systems- or, in the e-mail you received, change 'mode' to 'page' and 'actkey' to 'key' and it should work fine!

Hello

Fri Aug 29th 2003 at 11:52am by Leperous

Welcome to yet another new version of the SnarkPit, the 4th if I can still count correctly after having spent the last few months locked in a cave in front of the hypnotic white glow of Notepad. Please mind the bugs and the fact this place looks a little 'ropey', it's a constant work in progress but I just want it up and running already! Anyway, to the last version, this website is hopefully what Half-Life 2 will be to its prequel- bigger, better, and darker. And, I predict, they're both sadly lacking in actual snarkish goodness, but never mind- that'll change when I get 'themes' working here...

So here's the rundown: the old site was a bit of a mess, with code not working in places and tutorials difficult to find unless you knew it well. A quick glance to the bar above will tell you that this site is now split into 5 easy-to-comprehend sections- editing, maps, features, forums and people- and a different sidebar menu for each one. If you register and login there is a control panel you can use to add your own news, maps and tutorials. There's quite a lot on each page, so there's also a handy help icon in the top right of every page telling you what's what (which you can turn off if you log in)

The forums have changed slightly too- general banter is the same wacky place as always, but maps and editing help have changed- for the latter, you can only post a new topic by going via the editing section first and searching for your problem. It also works like certain support forums, with topics being 'unanswered' until a moderator or the topic starter points out the post(s) that answer the original question.

And finally, many of the old user accounts were deleted, so if you can't login and don't see yourself on the memberlist you'll need to re-register.
