Decided to sit down and try to learn some modeling instead of just making blocks and cylinders.

This is what I got so far:

There's a lot of tris I'd like to get converted to quads, and I ran into some problems when doing the tip of the tail so it's currently just a stump.

What do you think?

That's a good reference. This is gonna be a pretty detailed dragon fly I presume. Definitely could use like a diagram or something to rotoscope too. Looks like the angle is right. I'd expect more detail around the thorax area but I realize it's still a WIP. I'd wonder if modeling the veins in the wings would make it look any better or worse. -Probably should just leave those to the texture. It looks like you haven't added the head yet; I would add more creases to where the thorax joins to the abdomen.

Looking good so far. Can't wait to see this textured.

Thanks for the comment Riven.
About the thorax/abdomen joint; I WANT to add more detail to that area, but currently it's pretty messy because I had to join a 14 sided poly to an 8 sided one, it's where most of the tris come from, but I plan on redoing that part and adding more crease as you said, hopefully making it look more insect like and not as smooth as it is currently.

I highly doubt I will model the veins on the wings, if anything I will add it to the texture if I ever get that far, maybe using a normal map to create a height difference between the veins and the actual wing. I hope to get it textured though, especially the wings since I find them fascinating, pretty crazy patterns they got going there.

Looking good. I wouldn't model the veins on the wings this is defiantly a waste of polygons. A normal map to create the veins will be just as convincing as modeling the veins for something this small.

Also, this model would work really well with the func_fish_pool entity if you create a simple flapping wing animation. ;)

Currently I have no intention of porting this to a game engine, perhaps some other time I will clean the model and make a proper lowpoly.

Little progress, had to redo the wings.
