So I made a Metroid hack - Metroid Incursion - Released 2014

Its called "Metroid Incursion"

Totally new layout, new graphics, and a "Plus" version that adds a pause map (scrolls around when pressing pause with D-pad) as well as some weapon alterations.

Its about 40% done at this point, I want to have it wrapped up this year.

I love that game. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite NES games. If there was a decent editor for it I would make a hack for that one too. Unfortunately the existing editors are fairly old and limited. One is DOS based, the other was made for Windows 95 or 98 I think, I couldn't get it to work.

My latest Metroid hack is going to have new music also. Pretty much a whole new metroid experience. The story line is set as a prequel, and attempts to explain how the Metroids ended up on planet Zebes under the control of the Mother Brain and pirates. You play as a villain and basically start all of the problems related to the Metroids. The storyline goes deeper but you'll have to play the game to learn the details. I'm pretty far along in its development, I should be done in November or December.
