hello all,
I have been working on some custom models modeled in maya and
exported out into hammer. When i compile the maya exports using
studiomdl, i get 6 files .mdl .phy .vvd and three vtx files. I compiled
a .res file using resmaker and i noticed it uploaded all the files
except the .vtx ones i discovered the reason for this was that
studiomdl generated these files with an extra dot,
shower16.dx80.vtx
shower16.dx90.vtx
shower16.sw.vtx
if i renamed these
shower16_dx80.vtx
shower16_dx90.vtx
shower16_sw.vtx
then they load up correctly from the server to client but obviously
they are not going to work cause they are now named different. Is there
a way to specify the names out the files generated by studiomdl? so not
to put two sets of dots in the file name. or is this a bug within steam
as i noticed that file downloading from servers was not always possible

I havent been able to locate a shortcut on this problem, as far as i can see, steam just was never used like this for any map. Therefor I would recomend abandoning it.

eh!! valve provided the plugin for maya in a steam update, and this is
a recognised way of creating custom models!!! And what do u mean steam
was never used like this for any map. how else is steam suppost to be
used ...to make a nice cup of tea!!!
all
.dx80.vtx
.dx90.vtx
.sw.vtx
are fundamental to css/hl2/hldm models they are found through out all compressed gfc files!!!!
