I have had this idea for a while now about a game set in 80%-90% darkness, where light would be your most valuable resorce.
This idea came about because I have seen so many games try to make darkness a great covert strategy. The only problem is that in multiplayer, the "hideing in darkness" strategy doesn't work too well. I also posted the idea here because I believe Half-Life 2 could achieve this kind of effect.
The idea is simple, darkness greatly fills the maps to points of utmost darkness. Give players the finest of weaponry the creates the most spectacular of lighting effect while being used to pummel your enemy. Also, create a series of light emitting devices that range from a small hand-held light that lasts infinitly, but short range; to dropable/throwable flares that light rooms for a short period of time; or even a weapon based mortar that fire powerful flares that now only emit light but cause close proximity damage and temp blindness, for those not close but close enough.
As you can see, I have put a lot of thought into this. A Darkness mod would truely be full of glorious atmospheric effects that would dazel the eye, and provide great opportunities of strategy. It could be a great mod that, for the first time, you greates weapon is the dark and light.
You'd have to agree that this is truly an origanal idea, and could be a fisrt to the gaming comunity. Also, don't say doom or splinter cell has already done this, because I'm talking about darker enviorments, almost every where.
What do you think, yes, no, or other.

I'm thinking there was an Unreal (?) map back in the day which was fully dark- players could use torches to find weapons and other players, but obviously others would know where they are. I was thinking about making a map like this where the players could use the grav gun to pick up a prop with a light_dynamic attached, but unfortunately HL2 doesn't work too well with dynamic lighting.
Anyway, to me it sounds more like a map idea than a complete mod, it needs something else if you want it to be the latter...

I guess I am not a real big fan of darkness, as it just tends to wind
up with alot of squinting at the screen and annoyingness. But it
sounds like doom3 would be a more apporpriate game engine for you.
Would it just be a huge box with torches to find stuff, or would it actually be like an involved level?
