i have just started to play around with XSI [for hl2  ] and i am
interested in learning how to model. i have gone to many different
places [google included] and havent found any good simple tutorials,
that explain EVERYTHING, and if i do, then the next one is soo freaking
hard.

if anyone knowsa a site/link that has easy basic tutorials for XSI, i would appreashate [SP????] the help

ps. i dont have any prior modeling knowledge

*EDIT*- awww wops, wrong forum section

I doubt you'll ever find a tutorial explaining everything. Read as many tutorials you can until you get a grip of the program.

I haven't tried the program myself so I don't know if these tutorials are any good, but they seem quite helpful:

http://www.hl2world.com/wiki/index.php/Category:ModelingTutorials
Under 'X'.

http://xsifiles.com/june9-02.html
Under "Tutorials".

Also this hl2world thread seems to contain some nice info:
http://www.hl2world.com/bbs/xsi-tutorials-vt2552.html

Seems like a bunch of video tutorials, seems like you have to register on the site first to be able to download them though. Video tutorials can be very helpful so I suppose it's worth the effort:
http://www.3d-palace.com/video.php?vid=68#

XSI Base seems like a nice place. Look in the menu to the left, under "Tutorials". They seem to have quite a collection:
http://www.xsibase.com/

All of the above were found using google, so just keep on googlin' until you find what you want.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=xsi+%2Btutorials&btnG=Search
If google can't find it, it doesn't exist

Perhaps someone else actually using the program knows of other good resources somewhere.

edit

I happend to find some more video tutorials, not only for XSI, but also for Hammer and 3ds max:

**edit*

More video tut's:

Damo where did you get your version? I'd like to get into it but had trouble running one of the versions that I got. If you could tell me where you got yours I would be eternally grateful for five minutes.

I assume he got it from Softimage's website.. can't seem to hotlink to
them for some reason, so here are some instructions, try copying and
pasting the url below first.. if that doesn't work, go to
softimage.com=>products=>XSI Mod Tools=>on the left hand side
click on "Mod Tool Downloads. From there you should be able to figure it out.

http://www.softimage.com/products/Mod/v4/default.asp?pg=http://www.softimage.com/products/Mod/v42/downloads/

The url above seems to work, just couldn't get the BBCode to jive..

Under "Download: Software Components"

Heads up Foil, that's a bad link. The way you did the BBCode is wrong. I went to quote so I could see what you did. You cant have 2 http://'s or quotation marks.

EDIT: Ahah, you seem to have recovered before I could point it out.

Mod Tool is free, the full version is $600. Only thing is that Mod Tool has certain restrictions, but nobody really cares beacuse you have all you need.

Hmmm strange. Lemme look into this.

EDIT: Hold on a second. I remember now! To save progress and/or export, you need to get a key, or an addon! Open up you SDK and there should be a link to get the Valve addon. Just install the Addon and it should work fine.

There is a very good 12 part 5 hour video tutorial on how to make a gun complete with texturing and exporting on http://halflife2.filefront.com/files/Half-Life_2/Tutorials_and_Guides/VTMs;4385. Kudos to OtZman for that link.

when you download the mod tool, if you give them your email you will get a key.

Use that key to unlock saving.
