im still beteween noob and intermediate but i am trying to make a map
for hl2dm and cs:s based on a mod called stargate tc but stargatetc
runs off of hl engine so im having trouble importing textures from the
hl mod to hl2 because they run off wads and hl2 runs off vmf and ive
already tried useing the one posting in tutorials with no success can
anyone help it seems that because the new hammer runs through steam
that it only works with gcf files because of steam plz hlp me

I'm sure you can use wally to extract textures to whatever format (tga, jpg, etc) then use whatever that program is to pack them into a vmf.
Not that I've ever tried it.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

might work. but like i said when haamer uses stuff its in the gcf files so???????????/

I believe you put the textures in the materials folder and they show up in hammer when editing that game.

first make sure you have the sdk steam window open and hl2 on the dropdown
yea use wally to extract all the textures to tga files. then put the tgas into "username\sourcesdk_content\hl2\materialsrc\newName" (create a folder)
then open up in a new window, while still keeping the materials folder open.
open up "username\sourcesdk\bin" and scroll down till you see vtex
now back in the materials folder select all the textures and drag them to the other window and onto the vtex.exe and it should compile them and put them in "username\half-life2\hl2\materials" and there should be a new folder in there with the same name as the new folder you made above.
if so you have to go into that folder and make vmt's for every texture in there
the only problem with steam updating things every week is it doesent give the developers an incentive to playtest thier work, so we do it for them

yay i figured it out last night but it only worked on 90% of the files
but i think i got what i need so thanks for the help it only toook me a
week to figure out hahahahahaha
