I've been trying to make some cables (move_rope and keyframe_rope) that
are different colors by referencing some of the other cable materials
(red, green, blue). They always seem to come out black
in-game. Is it my eyes, my lighting, or can one not create
materials of other colors?

I know you have to use a "rope texture" ... I think.

I know there's also actual rope textures to use ... I've used them before ...

I'll boot it up for a minute to see if I can get a solid color rope going. I think it may need to be defined for rope usage though.

I tried the cable/black material, as well as cable/red, cable/gree, and cable/blue. Always comes out black looking.

Okay, I see what you mean. It turns out that it is showing the texture you selected. Those textures seem to be a gradient between the color to black. It's easily visible if you change the size of the rope to like 3 or something, half of it become a color (I tested red) the other half becomes black.

As for the remedy, you can try finding a texture to use that's actually all red, green, whatever you want, I'm sure it would work, since the texture has no material information (it seems). OR, you could try messing with the rope's texture scaling abilities. If it's a solid color, I'm sure scale wont be an issue, since there's no detail.

I hope that helps.

Ah ok - i'll check on those texture sizes, etc. I probably am
getting more of the worst case as I'm using very small cables, sizes of
0.1 and 0.2. Beyond the colors, they seem to draw just fine
at that scale.
