This was thought of with Sven Co-op in mind, but I'm sure if it works, it'd work just as well in singleplayer.
Okay, this dawned on me out of nowhere, and Half-Life vehicles suck so much it's funny:
What if you made it so the player wasn't in the vehicle at the time of
it driving (like HL Rally), since people always die the second they
start the car?
Is it possible to set some triggers to activate on the use key (invisible
env_buttons i guess, whatever) on a car model or in-map car so that it
teleports the player to a remote location, almost instantly starting up
the train controls or whatever for the car, and then immediately
afterwards/simultaneously forwarding them to a camera that looks at the
area of the car? Then when the car passes a certain point, it would
change to a new angle wherever the car is headed. I'm not too familiar
with teleporters or func_trains or whatever's used to make cars, so i
see 4 problems here:
1) A car (brushes) have no way of triggering things by moving through
trigger points (that sounds ridiculous, I know, there's gotta be a way
right? Does anyone know?)
2) Do the controls have to be "attached" to the car they're operating?
Otherwise, set the controls in the remote location i was talking about.
3) Is it possible to "push" a model around? as in, say..."attach" it to
a transparent solid i guess so it moves with the car entity?
4) Can you go about your daily business (like "use" things, such as, let's say a car), while you're in camera mode?
Please tell me this would work in regular sven co-op mapping (although
i doubt it, otherwise someone would have implemented this before...),
because i think it's a really good idea!
