Death Sequence

I am wondering how to make gordon freeman "pass out" or act like he is dead like whenfreeman went down the stairs when he had no weapons and the combine came and "knocked him out" and then aleyx kicked their butt and helped him up. How Do I make freeman do that. What are the triggers and what not to make it look like he got knocked out or knocked down? Sorry if you dont know what I mean but im sure someone does.
