Well I didn't see this one coming. The most famous footballer in the
world, having played for (arguably) the two biggest clubs in the world
  • Manchester United and Real Madrid, announces the next step in his
career - and it turns out to be a Major League Soccer team, in a
country where football plays third fiddle to other major sports like
American Football, Baseball, Basketball, NASCAR...
[size=13]The 31-year-old former England captain will sign a five-year deal, reportedly worth ?128m.
Hell, I think i'd do a Gary Lineker and play for Japan for that kind of
money. I'd scrub toilets with my tongue for THAT money. Here's hoping
it raises the profile of football in America and we see a new tour de
force for the international game.

Considering he didn't have much headlines as an actual footballer lately, that's a lot of money.
Why snark works.
