<span style="color: lightblue;">I followed the custom texture tutorial here and on other sites but my custom textures always come out in that pink and black checkers texture. What can i do? Is there a simple way to make custom textures?

Well I'm 99.99% sure they're in the write place. So would there be another reason?

After talking with you on Skype, I found the problem was that you had placed the brackets "{ }" as part of the file name of the texture itself. This is a problem because Source will look into the .vmt for those brackets to tell it where the code starts and stops. By adding it into the file name itself, you mess that whole organization process and it will not work for you. So in short: make sure not to include these bracket "{ }" characters in your file name or .vmt other than for their intended purpose.
